12 Ways to Find a Job.
provided by:

Workamper

Tips Some tips...

1. Decide what type of work you want to do.

2. Then decide when and where you would like to work.

3. Review the "Workamper Opportunities," "Workamper Classifieds," "Workamper Hotline" areas of Workamper News, as well as this website, for opportunities that match your preferences. We also recommend participation in Awesome Applicants.*

4. Pick the opportunities that fit your needs best and follow the instructions exactly as they are given in the ad. To help ensure a reply when responding by mail, it's a good idea to enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

5. When you make contact with the employer, by phone or letter, be sure you fully understand what will be expected of you (duties, hours, pay, etc.). Additional background information, references, etc., may be requested at this time and should be provided in a prompt and business-like manner. This is also your opportunity to ask questions of the employer and be sure this is the job for you.

6. If at all possible, try to visit the location and meet the owners/ managers, and if you get a chance, talk to other employees and customers. A personal visit also allows you to check out the clientele and the climate. If it's a campground, check out their rating in the campground directories. A high rating usually signifies solid, professional management. You can also contact us at Workamper News (501-362-2637), or e-mail info@workamper.com), and we will tell you what kind of feedback we have on a particular employer, if any.

7. Before you accept a job, be certain you thoroughly understand all aspects of the job, including: specific duties, hours, days off, wages, benefits, insurance, training, supervision, starting & ending dates, etc. We strongly recommend that you ask the employer for this information in writing. We further advise that you have this "letter of understanding," or "work agreement," in hand before giving notice or traveling a great distance to the new job site. (Good employers will gladly do this, because they want to avoid misunderstandings, too.)

8. When considering jobs that involve exchanges of hours worked for site, hookups, etc., we recommend that Workampers use the following formula to determine if the exchange meets individual needs. The value of the site (monthly or seasonal rate) + hookups + perks + any wages/salary divided by the number of hours worked per month = hourly wage. (Current federal minimum wage is $5.15 per hour. This formula should not be applied to bonafide volunteer positions at non-profit agencies and organizations.) Any job that requires special skills or experience or involves even minimal supervisory or managerial responsibility should pay more than minimum wage. It is up to each Workamper to be selective and to only accept jobs that provide a compensation package that suits his/her needs.

9. Remember, Workamping is about enjoying the RV lifestyle to its fullest. We recommend that you base your final decision on your answers to the following questions: Do I like the location? Do I like the duties? Am I satisfied with the compensation being offered? Do I like the employer? Am I physically and psychologically suited for this job?

10. Do not make a commitment unless you are sure you can fulfill it. When an agreement is reached, be sure to show up on the appointed day. The employer is counting on you.

11. You can increase your odds of finding the job that's right for you by using Awesome Applicants*, placing a FREE "Situations Wanted" ad in Workamper News, and/or by using the Workamper Hotline.

12. Key factors in landing any job: attention to detail, flexibility, neatness, maturity, sincerity, and a pleasant personality.
