On Thursday morning, we wanted to experience some of the woodcarving done with the native Huon Pine so stopped at the Huon Showcase. It was so interesting and I soon lost Lynn to the woodshop as he had wandered off with Andy to look at his tools and to stomp around in the sawdust left as a result of this beautiful craft .. so, I did what every girl would do, I went shopping and there was much to choose from. The covered bowl I chose is made from both sassafrass and, of course, the Huon Pine.
From there we made our way to the Talune Wildlife Park at Cygnet. This is a must .. Mike Jagoe is the owner and within 10 minutes of chatting with him, he opened a wooden box and put a little black furry creature in my arms.
His only words were, "this is Lucifer and he likes to be cuddled so hold him tight. He likes that!" Being the animal lover that I am, with no fear of anything with fur or feathers, I naturally accepted this little bundle. He was very soft, but I did notice that he had some sharp claws and a cold wet nose .. and then Lynn said, "Where is the camera? If I don't get a picture of this, no one will believe it!" That was when I realized that I was holding a Tasmanian Devil!! Lucifer is only 10 months old and has been hand-raised by Mike .. I was in my glory! We then wandered through the park to visit with koalas, wallabys, deer, ducks and baby wombats. All of these we were able to pet .. and there were others that we thought best to heed the signs!! We saw bandicoots, opossums, owls, more devils and word has it that Mike soon may have a platypus exhibit!
We stopped only a short distance past the park at the Hartzview Winery as we had been told that this was a special place for Port wines made from blueberries, cherries, blackberries, gooseberries as well as many other fine wines. Well, since we couldn't quite decide on which of those ports we like the most we decided to buy a sample pack that had all of them!
